First Ever Cyber Picket Line to Protest IBM Bad Bosses on September 25…and You Can Help!

"During the talks to renew IBM’s Italian internal collective agreement, the works council, supported by the majority of IBM Italy employees, asked for a small salary increase. IBM responded by canceling their 'productive results benefit,' resulting in a loss of €1000 per year for each employee. For a company that wants to lead in corporate social responsibility, this is unacceptable."

In response, the local union in Italy has arranged to conduct the first-ever online picket line. The picket line will be made up of avatars carrying picket signs with protest messages. People from around the world may join in to offer their support. The virtual picket line is offered via a service provided by Second Life.

According to an article in PersonnelToday.com, a department head at the Trade Union Confederation, Owen Tudor, said:

"Unions reinvent themselves every time bad bosses change the way they do business. IBM's virtual customers will be meeting cyber unionists for the first time this week, and firms who do the dirty on their staff can expect more and more innovative protests."
